Complete dMAT Affected Fields List (Official APS India Classification)
Last updated 2026-07-16
APS India published this field list on 29 June 2026 as guidance for which previous degrees fall under the dMAT requirement. It is explicitly described as guidance rather than an exhaustive list — APS India makes the final call for any individual application based on the official degree title, branch, major, honours subject or specialisation shown on your transcripts, marksheets and degree certificate. A programme name that merely contains a word like "Engineering," "Management" or "Technology" is not, by itself, enough to include or exclude a field. If your exact degree title isn't listed below, check the eligibility page for how APS India handles fields that are "clearly equivalent" to a listed one.
1. Engineering
Covered where the official branch or specialisation is clearly an engineering field (B.E., B.Tech or equivalent). Standalone technology degrees are not automatically included unless the official title is clearly an engineering degree.

Interdisciplinary and mixed fields
| Field / case | How APS India classifies it | |---|---| | B.Tech / Bachelor of Technology | Covered only if the branch is clearly Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Civil, CSE, ECE). B.Tech alone doesn't automatically cover every technology field. | | Computer / IT-related fields | CSE, Computer Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, and IT and Engineering are covered. Standalone Computer Science, BCA, Computer Applications, IT, AI, Data Science or Cyber Security are not automatically covered. | | Biotechnology-related fields | Biotechnology Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering are covered. B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Medical Biotechnology, Microbiology and Life Sciences are not. | | Food / Textile-related fields | Covered only where the official title is clearly an Engineering degree (Food Engineering, Textile Engineering). Food/Textile Technology alone is not automatically covered. | | Economics | Included in every form listed above, since APS India treats it as an economic science. | | B.Com / BBA with specialisations | Covered if the degree is officially awarded as Commerce, Business, Finance, Economics or Management — this doesn't by itself confirm formal degree recognition. | | Sector-specific management fields | Not classified by the word "Management" alone — see the table below. |
Fields requiring separate formal assessment
These sector-specific fields are not automatically included or excluded — APS India reviews the official degree title, duration and institution separately in each case:
BBA Hotel Management, BBA Hospitality Management, BBA Tourism and Travel Management, BBA Aviation Management, BBA Airline and Airport Management, BBA Hospital Administration, BBA Healthcare Management, Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM), Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT), Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM), Hotel Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Aviation Management, Airline and Airport Management, Hospital Administration, Healthcare Management, Construction Management, Infrastructure Management, Sports Management, and similar sector-specific management fields.
Fields not automatically included
Unless APS India explicitly classifies your specific degree title into one of the three groups above, the following are not covered by default:
Standalone technology degrees without an engineering title, B.Tech with a non-engineering/unclear branch, Information Technology as a standalone field, Information and Communication Technology, Information Science and Technology, Computer Applications, BCA, Computer Science without an engineering title, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Information Technology, B.Sc. Data Science, standalone Artificial Intelligence, standalone AI and Machine Learning, standalone Data Science, standalone Cyber Security, Biotechnology without an engineering title, B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Medical Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Food Technology and Food Processing Technology without an engineering title, Textile Technology (unless awarded as Textile Engineering), Leather Technology, Packaging Technology, Printing Technology, Rubber Technology, Architecture, Planning, Town Planning, Interior Design, Urban and Regional Planning, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Pharma Technology, Agriculture (unless awarded as Agricultural Engineering), Medical/Nursing/Physiotherapy and other health-science degrees, Law, Education, Library and Information Sciences, Pure Sciences (except Economics), Arts (except Economics), Humanities, and Social Sciences (except Economics).
The bottom line
APS India decides the final classification using your official degree title, major, honours subject, branch, specialisation, transcripts, marksheets, degree duration and institution status. This list doesn't replace the APS document check, institution/degree assessment, anabin, German recognition requirements, or a German university's own admission decision. If you're unsure where your degree falls, see the eligibility page or check the dMAT FAQ.
