dMAT Exam Dates 2026: Registration Deadline, Test Date & Results

The entire first dMAT cycle in India runs on four fixed dates. The dMAT is not offered on demand — there's no rolling or on-request testing, so missing any one of these dates affects your whole timeline, not just the test itself.

These are the only dates confirmed for the 2026 cycle. Registration and the test itself are handled entirely by g.a.s.t. through the official portal linked from d-mat.de — APS India isn't involved in booking, only in requiring the resulting certificate afterward.

Is there a 2027 dMAT date yet?

There is a planned one, but not a dated one. g.a.s.t.'s official FAQ for Indian graduate applicants states that the next test date after 26 September 2026 is planned for the first quarter of 2027, with the exact day to be published on the dMAT website once it's confirmed. As of 15 October 2026, APS India's dMAT page narrows that: it says the next test dates will be in mid-January and mid-March, and that the registration start date will be announced shortly. That distinction matters more than it might look, because "planned" and "bookable" are not the same thing:

• You cannot register for it yet. Registration for any dMAT sitting opens against a specific published date with its own deadline. Until g.a.s.t. names the Q1 2027 day, there is nothing to book.
• You cannot safely plan a university deadline around it. "Mid-January and mid-March" are the only anchors so far, and results follow the test by roughly two weeks — the 2026 cycle ran 26 September to 12 October. A mid-January sitting and a mid-March sitting therefore land your certificate in very different places relative to a Summer 2027 application deadline.
• It is still a real fallback. Before this was published, an applicant who missed the September window had no confirmed horizon at all. Now the wait has a rough shape — two windows — even if neither has an exact date.

How long your result stays usable

Two separate questions get confused here: how long the certificate is valid, and whether it covers the intake you're applying for.

On validity, g.a.s.t. is unambiguous — the dMAT certificate carries no expiry date. It does add one caveat worth knowing: if you submit the certificate directly to a university rather than through APS, that university may apply its own rule about how recent a result it will accept. So the certificate never expires on g.a.s.t.'s side, but a university can still decide a result is too old for its own purposes.

On intake coverage, g.a.s.t. confirms that a result from the September 2026 sitting remains valid for the Winter Semester 2027 intake, not just Summer Semester 2027. Can you retake the dMAT?

Yes, and without limit — g.a.s.t. states there's no cap on how many times you may sit the dMAT. You can also take it voluntarily, even if the APS requirement doesn't apply to you.

The constraint isn't permission, it's the calendar. Each attempt needs its own registration, its own fee, and its own test date, and test dates are the scarce resource here: with the next sitting only planned for Q1 2027, a retake is measured in months, not weeks. What happens if you miss the registration deadline

There's no late registration and no exception process described for missing the 15 September 2026 deadline — you simply have to wait for the next sitting, which g.a.s.t. currently plans for the first quarter of 2027. Because APS processing and German university application deadlines (often December or January for a Summer intake) don't move to accommodate this, missing the dMAT window can push your entire APS certificate, and with it your university application, into a later intake than you planned for.

Work through the consequence concretely rather than assuming the Q1 2027 sitting rescues the plan. Deadlines that affect your registration status

Two other date-sensitive rules to know before you register:

• If you have a documented disability or condition requiring special exam arrangements, g.a.s.t. requires registering at least ten weeks before the exam date — considerably earlier than the general deadline.
